Ghetto Reno #1

A trip to Sydney was the first Ghetto Reno that i did. I helped my daughter collect some bits and pieces to make her unit homely after her flat mate moved out and took everything. When i arrived, she was sleeping on an air bed on the loungeroom floor, with cockies infesting the place. It was pretty grosse. So on the hunt i went. I was able to stay for 4 days, and in this time, we hit all the bargain centres, and jumped on ebay of course and sourced some pretty cool stuff.

We found this awesome canadian oak dresser at the local op shop, they were having a 50% off sale so it cost us $135. With a little oil, some pretty lamps and crystal, it looks a million dollars.

The lounge was an ebay special. A lovely teal velvet antique lounge was one of the better bargains. For a 3 seat lounge and 2 chairs, it cost $115. We added a mat that was on sale for $50 with matching colours and some curtains we got off a continuos roll that was $2 per metre from the local spotlight store to make the lounge a lovely romantic setting. The sun comes in the door in the morning and hits the curtains and spreads a lovely dappled light through the room.

The bed was another score from ebay. $50 with mattress. The bedhead is made of a beautiful damask cotton, which had a stain on it from the users hair.. Eeew! but we used some "Magic Potion", got the stain out and now it is as if it was new. The mattress is in perfect condition. Couldnt believe it once we got it into the room how good it looks. The dresser beside was another find on ebay.. At only $10.50 it was a true BARGAIN. Came with glass tops for the shelves and some lovely antique doilies under each glass piece. The mirror is in perfect condition. I couldn't bring myself to giving the owner $10.50, so a twenty dollar note went across to her eager palm..I added an antique light $50, and some crystal (op shop) to give a more romantic look.

Op shop finds are great for this sort of thing. Keep looking around until you find things that really suit. Old and modern go together, so dont be afraid to mix and match..

Even outside got a little touch of Ghetto Reno... some fake grass covered the very poorly painted patio and i couldnt believe the transformation it made. A few little herb pots for Mandy to use, and when we find an outdoor setting, it will finish it off. What a great place to sit in the morning sun..
